About the Event

Athletistry - 3-Day Intensive - Wānaka Junior Workshop - Ages 8-11 - Centralpoint Dance Studios, Wānaka 8-10 October 2026 | $130 NZD per day | Limited places Strong technique starts with understanding. Young dancers are often told to point harder, turn out more, and keep trying. But very few are ever shown how their body actually creates those movements. The Athletistry Junior Workshop gives dancers a smarter foundation. Instead of simply copying shapes, dancers begin to understand how alignment, strength, and coordination work together to create better ballet technique. When young dancers learn this early, training becomes clearer, progress becomes more consistent, and technique becomes something they can build with confidence over time. Train smarter. Dance stronger. Remember to practice for many years. Dates: 8-10 October 2026 Location: Centralpoint Dance Studios, 50 Anderson Rd, Wānaka Ages: 8-11 years Single Day: $130 NZD per day This workshop is designed to give young dancers practical tools they can take back into class straight away, while training in a supportive environment that still challenges them to grow. Places are limited so each dancer receives meaningful coaching and individual attention throughout. About Shane Wuerthner - Vienna State Ballet - San Francisco Ballet - Queensland Ballet Through Athletistry, Shane helps dancers connect classical ballet training with anatomy, strength, and movement mechanics so that corrections make sense and technique becomes more reliable. His coaching is designed to help dancers understand not just what to do, but why it works. What changes when dancers train this way: 1. When dancers understand how their body is organised, balance becomes steadier. 2. When they understand where turnout comes from, they stop forcing from the wrong places. 3. When strength is developed in the right areas, technique starts to feel more secure. 4. Instead of just trying harder, dancers begin to move with more clarity and control. That shift can change the way they experience every class afterwards. Training covers: Posture and alignment - Coordination - Musicality - Foot strength - Hip control - Body awareness This workshop is ideal for young dancers who already attend regular ballet classes and want to improve their technique. It suits dancers who enjoy learning, who are curious about movement, and who are ready to focus and work with intention. The environment is encouraging and positive - but the work is purposeful. Places are strictly limited. Workshops fill quickly. If you would like your dancer to join us in Wānaka, we recommend securing your place early.
